Three Kalamazoo, Michigan residents were injured in a crash in Marion County over the weekend.

State police say the crash occurred at 6:40pm Saturday on I-70 northbound, four miles north of Salem. Police report a car driven by 52-year-old Darlen James was southbound when James jerked the steering wheel left. The car crossed over the left lane of traffic, then over the left shoulder, leaving the roadway. The car continued down the center median and struck a drainage ditch grate. That caused the car to become airborne. When the car hit the ground, it began to roll, flipping end over end, onto its roof. The car skidded across both northbound lanes of traffic on its roof, narrowly missing other traffic, and came to rest on the right shoulder of the northbound lanes.

James was airlifted from the scene to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, while the two passengers were flown to St. Louis University Hospital.

Darlen James was cited for improper lane usage, and all three occupants of the vehicle were cited for illegal transportation of alcohol.
