Two crashes involving injuries were investigated in the area Tuesday.

One crash occurred at 7:57am on Illinois Route 33 at the east edge of Shumway. Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports units involved were driven by 29-year-old Matthew Dye and 58-year-old Steven Fry, both of Beecher City. Deputies say Fry was stopped in traffic waiting for a vehicle in front of him to turn left, when he was hit from behind by a vehicle driven by Dye.

Fry was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Dye was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, and operating an uninsured vehicle.

The other crash occurred on I-70, five miles west of Effingham, at 4:23pm.

Illinois State Police report a car driven by 37-year-old Christi Mulligan of Arcola was eastbound when her car traveled over standing water on the roadway due to flash flooding. Mulligan lost control of the car, which spun 180 degrees clockwise, and overturned in the flooded south median.

Mulligan was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. No tickets were issued.
