Man Injured in Garbage Truck Crash in Jasper County

An Olney man was injured Friday morning in a crash involving a garbage truck in Jasper County.

The crash happened at 5:30am on Illinois Route 130, five miles south of Newton. Illinois State Police report the garbage truck driven by 31-year-old Shane W.B. Elder was traveling north when Elder failed to negotiate a curve. The truck traveled off the highway and across an embankment. The vehicle traveled more than 500 feet more, striking three separate implements before coming to rest.

Elder was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana for treatment. He was cited for improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.
