Warm temperatures and timely rains kept crops in good condition over the past week in Illinois.

Statewide, the average temperature was 76.7 degrees, two degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.14 inches, three-tenths of an inch above normal. There were 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending July 31.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% very short, 6% short, 86% adequate, and 7% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% very short, 6% short, 86% adequate, and 7% surplus.

Corn silking reached 97%, compared to 93% last year. Corn dough was at 38%, compared to 42% for the five-year average. Corn condition was rated 1% very poor, 2% poor, 14% fair, 57% good, and 26% excellent. 

Soybeans blooming was at 85%, compared to 79% last year. Soybeans setting pods jumped to 51%. Soybean condition rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 17% fair, 56% good, and 21% excellent.

Oats harvested reached 66%, up 15 percentage points from last week.

Pasture and range condition was rated at 1% very poor, 3% poor, 18% fair, 60% good, and 18% excellent.
