Sheriff Mahon Wins National Honors From Legion

Effingham County Sheriff David Mahon has been selected as the American Legion Central Region Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for 2016. Mahon has also been notified of his selection as the national award winner. The notification came at the American Legion Department of Illinois Convention in Springfield.

The Central Region is comprised of Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia and Department of France.

Last year, Sheriff Mahon was selected as the American Legion Law Enforcement Officer of the year for the State of Illinois, which advanced him to this convention, where he has received the Region award. On Friday, Sheriff Mahon was also officially notified by the Delegation he has been chosen from the five Regional candidates as the National Award winner.

On August 31, Sheriff Mahon will travel to the American Legion 98th Annual National Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio where he will receive the American Legion National Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award for 2016.
