Dental Students Recognized at LLC Ceremony

(DURING A RECENT LAKE LAND COLLEGE DENTAL HYGIENE PINNING CEREMONY, ALEXANDRIA McDANIEL OF NEWTON RECEIVED THE STUDENT TOTAL ACHIEVEMENT RECOGNITION AWARD FROM DENTAL HYGIENE INSTRUCTOR DR MARGARET MERRY-NIEBRUGGE. THIS AWARD IS PRESENTED TO A GRADUATING STUDENT WHO SHOWS EXCELLENCE AND COMMITMENT TO THE HYGIENE PROFESSION)

25 dental hygiene graduates received their pins at the 2016 Lake Land College dental hygiene pinning ceremony.

Several students received scholarships or awards during the ceremony.

Brittni York of Cerre Gordo and Alexandria McDaniel of Newton were recognized for receiving the Linda Lee Fletcher Scholarship in fall 2015. York was also awarded the Golden Scaler Award, sponsored by Hu-Friedy, for demonstrating advanced skills in instrumentation.

Additionally, McDaniel also received the Student Total Achievement Recognition (STAR) Award, which is offered to a graduating student who shows excellence and commitment to the hygiene profession by demonstrating true dedication to the profession, exhibiting extraordinary compassion in patient care, displaying enthusiasm and follow-through for community service, and demonstrating outstanding patient education and motivation skills.

Charity Brown of Robinson received the Preventive Dentistry Award, sponsored by Proctor & Gamble, for demonstrating the best patient education.

Melissa Livesay of Riverton was awarded with Best Dental Hygienist, which was voted on by students in the program.

Marissa Prevett of Springfield and Megan Stewart of Assumption were inducted into Sigma Phi Alpha Dental Hygiene Society.

Lake Land College Dental Hygiene program is a special admissions program that prepares students with specialized skills necessary for employment as a dental hygienist. Emphasis is on dental hygiene treatment and on the hygienist’s abilities as a dental health educator. The hygienist’s services are sought by dentists, schools, prisons, hospitals, departments of health and industry. The dental hygiene program is fully accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation.
