The 2016 Effingham County Relay for Life was again a pacesetter event.

American Cancer Society Community Manager Sarah Lucht said the local event reached its goal prior to the closing ceremony early Saturday morning.

It's the second year in a row that the local event was a pacesetter event.

Lucht said $21,973.50 was actually raised at the Relay event, bringing the total for the effort to $123,867.

(GREG AND TONYA WERE REALLY EATING UP RELAY FOR LIFE. 35 BOOTHS FULL OF FOOD AND FUN WERE IN PLACE FOR THIS YEAR'S RELAY)

Thanks to so many who participated, including those who hosted the 35 booths at the event and all of those who volunteered in any way.

A reminder that contributions can still be made to this year's effort. Contributions can be made to Relay for Life until August 31.
