Teutopolis village board members Wednesday discussed potential sewer rate increases.

The first year increase would be $1.50/month, with 50 cent/month increases in each of the following four years for those using up to the minimum amount of water. For those who use above the minimum but less than 54,000 gallons/month, the rate would increase $3.25/month. For those customers who use above 54,000 gallons/month, the rate would go up $3.50/month.

The matter was not voted on Wednesday.

The Board tabled action on replacing the street sweeper, but did vote to hire Visu-Sewer to clean and grout storm sewers by the village park, the high school and Garrett Street. The work should cost between $5,000 and $7,000.

Board members awarded a contract for cast iron water main replacement work to B&T Drainage for $272,000. The replacement work will run from Oak Street to the water treatment plant and from Pearl Street to St. Francis Township Road. Also approved was the prevailing wage rates for contracted work, and the appropriations ordinance for the new fiscal year. The Board also approved vacating a small triangular piece of land that is officially part of Green Street. The vacation will allow for construction of new offices for Swingler Construction.

Board members discussed a joint project with St. Francis Parish by Teutopolis Grade School. The Board committed up to $60,000 to help improve John Street on the west side of the school to help with school bus turns, and agreed to let village employees wear shorts when reading water meters.
