One person was hospitalized after a crash shortly before noon Tuesday near Vandalia.

State police say the crash occurred at 11:45am on westbound I-70, one mile west of Vandalia. Two semis were involved, one driven by 61-year-old Elizabeth Snowdale of Bowdoinham, Maine, the other driven by 52-year-old Archie McRae of Anderson, South Carolina. McRae slowed due to traffic, but Snowdale failed to slow, swerving to the left, but still striking the trailer of McRae's rig.

Snowdale's rig ran off the roadway into the median, and came to rest on its side.

Snowdale was injured and was taken to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
