Effingham city police Tuesday released details on a collision involving a vehicle and a train that occurred early Friday morning.

Police say the crash occurred at 4:02am when a vehicle driven by 34-year-old John Burcham of Effingham drove around the activated railroad crossing gates on Jefferson Avenue at the Canadian National Railroad. Burcham's vehicle was struck by the train, spinning the vehicle around. The vehicle then struck and damaged a building owned by Brian Wick of Effingham.

Burcham was injured and was taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Burcham was cited for DUI and disobeying a railroad signal.
