Real estate data and analysis company CoreLogic said Illinois' property tax burden is the largest among the 50 states.

Local St. Sen. Kyle McCarter said high property taxes hurt middle-class homeowners and Illinois' ability to attract new businesses and compete for jobs.

The senator is hosting a Property Tax Town Hall this Thursday evening at the Effingham VFW Post Home on Veterans Drive. The event will run from 6:30-7:30pm and refreshments will be provided. Effingham County Supervisor of Assessments Pam Braun will be the guest speaker.

Topics will include information about how tax exemptions work, filing an appeal of a property tax assessment, a question and answer session, and a proposed statewide property tax freeze.

For more information, phone Sen. McCarter's office at 217-782-5755.
