State Crop Report for Week Ending June 5

Rain continued to cause producers problems in southern Illinois last week, while in other parts of the state planting of corn and soybeans is beginning to wrap up.

Statewide, the average temperature was 71.9 degrees, 3.9 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.98 inches, 0.06 inches above normal. There were 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending June 5.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 9 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 18 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 8 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus.

Corn planted was at 97 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 98 percent. Corn emerged was at 92 percent, compared to 95 percent last year and the 5-year average of 93 percent. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 4 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 18 percent excellent.

Soybeans planted was at 81 percent, compared to 86 percent last year. Soybeans emerged was at 66 percent, up 21 percentage points from last week. Soybean condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 21 percent fair, 62 percent good, and 11 percent excellent.

Winter wheat headed was at 98 percent, compared to 97 percent last year. Winter wheat condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 47 percent good, and 10 percent excellent.

Oats headed jumped to 42 percent, up 19 percentage points from last week.

Pasture and range condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 24 percent excellent.
