The Special Olympics State Summer Games are coming up next week, and the local leg of a torch run to the gamesite in Bloomington is scheduled for next Wednesday, June 8.

The Annual Leg 16 Area 9 Law Enforcement Torch Run will begin in Olney and make its way to Effingham. The run will continue from Effingham north through Sigel and Neoga to Mattoon. All 18 legs of the torch run finally converge on the campus of Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal on Friday, June 10 to kick off the weekend-long summer games.

The Effingham leg of the torch run will leave the lawn of the Effingham County Courthouse Museum downtown at 8am Wednesday. Illinois State Police troopers and others in the law enforcement community will be participating, as will members of the Effingham County Lightning Special Olympics team.

The public is invited to turn out for the departure from Effingham.
