(JACKIE MILLER LISTENS AS COUNTY BOARD MEMBER KAREN LUCHTEFELD READS THE PROCLAMATION HONORING HIM FOR 25 YEARS WITH THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT)

Effingham County Board members Monday voted to obtain a membership in the Effingham Regional Growth Alliance, or The Alliance.

As to the price tag, the Board agreed to expend the remaining $3,500 from economic development for this year and to commit $15,000/year for each of the next three years.

The Alliance is a group of businesses and government agencies banding together to promote economic development.

The Board voted against earmarking $2,500 from hotel/motel dollars for TREC trail maintenance. Board Chairman Jim Niemann said there is money in the budget already for the work so no need to add to the kitty right now.

The Board also:

--honored Jackie Miller for his 25 years' service with the County Highway Department

--passed a resolution proclaiming a Southern Illinois Bicentennial Celebration

--accepted a proposal from Top Shelf Solutions for first aid kits in county buildings

--contributed $1,000 in hotel/motel tax dollars for the fireworks display at Lake Sara

--abated a GIS intergovernmental agreement with the City of Effingham and City of Altamont

--approved a grant agreeement for $104,000 for two new vehicles for Central Illinois Public Transit, with no local match of monies involved

--voted to contribute $200 toward the cost of operating a booth at the county fair featuring the various county offices

--and approved various appointments to boards and committees, including Henry Verdeyen and Jack Klay to the Board of Review...Ron Voelker, Todd Wachtel and Cletus Bloemer to the Ag Area Committee...and Ted Heath to the 911 board. The Board also dissolved the Fine Arts in Architecture Committee that, according to longtime county offiicials, has never met.
