Major damage was done at Altamont Pharmacy Friday afternoon when a car drove into the building...literally.

Pharmacist Doug Phillips said the incident happened about 2:30pm. A vehicle driven by a woman plowed through the front of the building at 12 North 3rd Street. Phillips said all of the front windows were shattered. He is also sad since many of the antique items always seen in the front of the building were damaged or destroyed in the incident. Some of those items were donated for display by area residents, but many are Phillips' family heirlooms, dating back to his great-grandmother.

No one was injured in the incident, including the driver, whose name is not yet available. Phillips said it's the third time that someone has driven into the building. There was a close call, though; Phillips said a man sitting in a chair was spared when the car was stopped when it struck the prescription medicine disposal container. The man was sitting right behind the container.

Despite the damage, the pharmacy is open for business during regular hours.
