The Lake Land College Board of Trustees has unanimously approved Jon Althaus as the next vice president for academic services.

(JON ALTHAUS)

Lake Land College President Josh Bullock said, “Jon was a standout among a field of qualified applicants and brings tremendous knowledge of Lake Land College, and academia, to the position. In his 24 years as a faculty member at Lake Land College, Jon has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to student success.”

Althaus has served as an agriculture instructor and livestock judging team coach, and most recently as division chair of the agriculture division. During his tenure he has coached 25 championship livestock judging teams, including four national titles, and has grown Lake Land College Agriculture Division enrollments through networking with prospective students, instructors and industry leaders from throughout the Midwest.

Althaus is an Illinois community college alumni, having attended Illinois Central College in East Peoria. In addition, Jon earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Western Illinois University and a master’s degree in animal science from Western Kentucky University.

As the vice president for academic services, Althaus will serve as a member of the president’s cabinet and will provide leadership and vision for all academic programs and services. He will administer and supervise all academic operations of the college, including strategic planning, development, administration, supervision, and evaluation for academic programs and personnel.

Earlier this year, the Lake Land College Board of Trustees approved a reorganization of the college’s leadership for fiscal year 2017 that streamlines the administration and provides new opportunities for the college to be agile and responsive to the needs of our communities. As part of this plan, the college will be eliminating two associate vice president positions and creating a new vice president for workforce solutions and community education position, focused on building stronger connections with district and state employers to address workforce training needs. Jim Hull, current vice president for academic services, has been appointed to fill this role.

Both Hull and Althaus will begin their new duties on July 1.
