Members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas have announced they plan to visit Casey this Sunday.

The church members have gained nationwide attention in the past, protesting outside churches where funerals are being held for military service personnel killed in action. The protests are staged, church members say, because of US policies supporting or tolerant of a homosexual lifestyle. The rationale, they say, is that if the service personnel fought for the United States, their funerals should be protested.

There are no military funerals scheduled in Casey this weekend, though; the church members say they plan to protest the worship services scheduled at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, First Baptist Church, and Casey United Methodist Church.

Casey Police Chief Mark Jenkins has asked citizens to go on about their regular worship schedules and to "politely ignore" any Westboro members who might show up in Casey on Sunday. The Westboro church representatives have indicated their protest will be non-violent and "just want to get their message out."
