City Police Handle Two Crashes w/Injuries Over Weekend

Effingham city police handled two crashes involving injuries over the weekend.

One crash occurred at 3:51pm Saturday north of the intersection of Henrietta and Fayette. Police say a vehicle driven by 53-year-old Ricky Voyles of Mode rear-ended a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Kaleb Hirtzel of Effingham.

Two passengers in the Hirtzel vehicle, 32-year-old Elise Hirtzel and six-year-old Johnathon Hirtzel, both of Effingham, were injured, but declined treatment.

Voyles was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

Six people were injured in the other crash at 7:35pm Sunday at the intersection of West Fayette and the interstate on-ramp. Police say a vehicle driven by 55-year-old Carmencita Estalilla Shaw of Greencastle, Indiana, turned in front of and was struck by a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Michael Brummer of Altamont.

Brummer and a passenger in Brummer's vehicle, 13-year-old Kimberly Brummer, were injured and were taken by private vehicle to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital. Shaw and three passengers in Shaw's vehicle, 19-year-old Christina Shaw, 15-year-old Grace Gottschalk, and 15-year-old Hannah York, all of Greencastle, Indiana, were all injured and were taken by ambulance to St. Anthony's.

No citations were issued.
