(SOME OF THE AFTERMATH OF THE QUAKE)

Strasburg native Evan Noffke is safe in Ecuador following Saturday's 7.8 earthquake that damaged that nation.

Evan's father, James Noffke of Strasburg, phoned us to indicate that he has spoken with Evan and he is fine. James said many people who know Evan is in Ecuador have been calling about his welfare so wanted to share that he is well.

Evan teaches 6th grade Science in Ecuador's capital city of Quito where much damage was done. James said Evan's building in which he lives was a better-constructed building than many and so withstood the earthquake.

James said his son has been teaching in Ecuador for a couple of years. He said Evan told him, "you don't think 30 seconds is too long until you go through something like this."

An aftershock measuring 6.1 visited the same area early Wednesday.

By the way, today is Evan's 28th birthday.
