Alumni, family and friends turned out Sunday to honor longtime Teutopolis band director Craig Lindvahl.

The spring band concert at J.H. Griffin Gym was also a time to recognize Lindvahl, who served as band director for almost 30 years.

We took time after the concert to talk with perhaps Craig's best-known former student Gregg Lohman, drummer for country singing star Kelly Pickler's band, and with current Teutopolis High School band director Melissa Orndorff for their thoughts about Craig and the Sunday activities...

Many former band members were in attendance to honor Lindvahl, with 40 of them participating with the band on one selection. There were songs that Lindvahl staples during his years as director, including a Blues Brothers medley and a version of "Amazing Grace" featuring Effingham native Paul Hinson, now living in Oakland, on bagpipes.

There was also mention of a scholarship established in Lindvahl's honor, the Lindvahl Legacy Scholarship. Contributions are still being received for the scholarship, which will involve a $750 award to a senior band student each year as long as the funds last.
