One of the final phases of development of the Workman Sports and Wellness Complex will begin Monday, as landscaping gets underway.

Effingham Park District Director Jeff Althoff said the sunny and warmer weather will allow dirt work to begin. Althoff is hopeful some plants and trees could be put in place as soon as Monday, depending on how the dirt work progresses. The District has the plants and trees on hand in storage, waiting for a break in the weather.

Another key to getting started with the dirt work is that asphalting of the roadways and parking lots at the Complex has been completed.

Basketball players will be happy to hear that the installation of bleachers at the sports courts in the Workman Complex is finished. The work was to be completed by today.

Althoff noted that in a nice surprise, Irwin Telescopic, the firm that provided the bleachers, not only aided with the installation, they have decided to donate the bleachers at no cost to the District.

Park Board members heard at this month's meeting that there are now 1,096 memberships to the Workman Complex, which translates to over 3,000 members. Commissioners will get a breakdown on individual and family memberships at the May meeting.
