Following a closed session Monday night, the Teutopolis Board of Education set the date for a public forum regarding a proposed settlement agreement with the American Civil Liberties Union regarding the Religion classes offered students by St. Francis Parish.

The special meeting has been scheduled for next Tuesday night, April 19, at 6:30pm in the Teutopolis High School Media Center. A reminder that the terms of the settlement are available in a separate story on Monday night's meeting here on the website and on the Teutopolis Unit 50 website.

Also Monday, the Teutopolis board granted a 2% salary increase for non-union exempt and non-exempt employees for the 2016-17 school year. There was no action on administrators' salaries.

The Board accepted the resignation of Andrew Johnson as assistant high school principal and athletic director. Johnson has been hired as the next superintendent of the Jasper Unit 1 School District. Also accepted was the resignation of Jessica Schackmann as junior high volleyball coach and the retirement of Teri Wortman at the end of the current school year. The Board also approved volunteers, including Maria Tegeler as a high school girls basketball volunteer, Kyle Pruemer for high school boys baseball, and Allison Vogt for the Teutopolis High School Pomerettes.

Teutopolis board members approved a revised 2015-16 school calendar after the use of a snow day. The last day for students will now be May 18, with a Teacher Institute Day on May 19. It was also agreed to advertise these open positions: kindergarten teacher, elementary teacher and K-8 guidance counselor.

The Board adopted a new mission statement for the district: "The mission of Teutopolis Unit #50 is to intellectually, emotionally, and socially equip those who pass through these doors with the ability and desire to make this world a better place for themselves and others." Also approved was a list of goals for the school district. The Board will review progress toward meeting the goals each quarter at a Board meeting and also review goals annually in January in case changes are needed.
