Iowa Gives Okay to Oil Pipeline to Patoka

The Iowa Utilities Board has given the Dakota Access Pipeline the final construction permits needed to begin construction on the oil pipeline that will connect the Bakken Oil Fields in North Dakota with the Patoka Tank Farm in northwest Marion County.

Permits are already in place from North and South Dakota and Illinois that will also contain part of the pipeline.  Dakota Access officials say preparations to begin construction are now underway in all four states.  Work has already started on construction of the tank farms in North Dakota.

As of Friday, Dakota Access has secured voluntary easement agreements on 93-percent of the properties across the four-state route.  That includes 99-percent in North Dakota, 97-percent in South Dakota, 85-percent in Iowa and 96-percent in Illinois.  Dakota Access will continue to work with landowners to negotiate voluntary easement agreements as construction begins.

The pipeline when constructed will transport up to 570,000 barrels of crude oil daily from the Bakken oil fields to the Patoka Tank Farm.
