The Democratic Party won the top slots as Effingham County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel held a drawing to determine which party's candidates will appear first on the November 8, 2016 General Election ballot.

Rob Arnold, representing the Republican Party, and Steve Dasenbrock, representing the Democratic Party, participated in the lottery.

Representatives pulled a number from a container for their parties' placement on the upcoming ballot. Republican Arnold reached in and picked #2, then Democrat Dasenbrock picked #1.

As a result, in all races on the November 8, 2016 General Election ballot, the Democratic Party candidate will be listed first and the Republican candidate second.

Those who wish to file as Independent or New Party candidates will file nomination papers between June 20 and June 27 and will be listed in order of filing after the Democratic and Republican parties.
