Taylor Fatheree Wins Lake Sara Dam Run; Proceeds Still Being Tabulated

Local triathlete Taylor Fatheree won the Lake Sara Dam Run Saturday.

Fatheree, a track and cross country star at Effingham High School, is now competing as a club triathlete at Eastern Illinois University. He won the 5K competition in 15:46. Addam Dahnke of Dieterich was second in 19:33.92.

Angela Sabo of St. Louis won the women's competition in 20:24.68, which was sixth-best overall. Jen Thoele of Effingham finished second in the women's run.

Nicholas Heller of Urbana won the eight-mile run in 46:17, while Mark Merkel of Effingham was second in 50:27.71. Shana Ambuehl of Kinmundy finished first among women in 56:46.52, which was seventh overall.

Bill Copper of Iowa, a perennial competitor, won the walk, while Kiyah Syfert of Mattoon was second overall and won the women's event, with Carol Walk second and Carol Toney third.

Organizer Ruth Rhodes said 770 people registered for the event, with 682 finishing. Rhodes said they are still totaling the amount raised from the event, which is designed to benefit Special Olympics.
