Jim Verdeyen has worked with Mike Nolan at Y Yard for 43 years.

Nolan and Verdeyen were both happy Friday when Verdeyen was honored as Employee of the Year for 2016 during the Employee Appreciation Luncheon, sponsored annually by the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce.

Verdeyen said he's stayed there all of these years because it's a great place to work and since Mike and his daughters now in management Kelly Roepke and Erin Swingler have treated him well.

Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker officially proclaimed April 1, 2016 as "Jim Verdeyen Day" in the city at the luncheon and announced the winner of the award.

The Chamber annually solicits nominations from member businesses for the honor. The others nominated were Toby McMahon of Probst Auto Body, Priscilla Lipe of Days Inn, Kathy Van Sant of Dusty's Outdoor Media, and Elizabeth Wilson of Land of Lincoln Credit Union.
