The case of Altamont native Nick Wurl is on hold awaiting a new attorney for Wurl.

The 25-year-old Wurl, who lives in Chicago, is charged with making false representations about the nature of his company's business that allegedly led to fraudulently obtaining more than $9 million from approximately 50 investors. The efforts allegedly led to a loss to investors of approximately $4 million. Wurl faces up to 20 years in prison and the forfeiture of the $9 million, as well as fines.

The federal judge hearing the case earlier this month granted a request from Imani Chiphe of the Federal Defender Program to withdraw as Wurl's counsel. No replacement has been named.

As a result, the judge has also vacated the scheduled May 23 trial date for Wurl. A new date will be chosen once a new attorney has been appointed.
