An Effingham County Grand Jury Wednesday indicted five individuals for their alleged roles in the stabbing incident that occurred at the Edgewood American Legion in late January.

22-year-old Sandra A. Buening of Mason and 23-year-old Dylan W. White of Mason were each indicted for battery and mob action. 21-year-old Brandon R. Smith of Mason, 20-year-old Hayden L. Limes of Edgewood and 21-year-old Jacob C. White of Dieterich were each indicted on counts of mob action.

Jacob White's bond was set at $50,000; the others' bond was set at $20,000 each.

Just after 12:30am on January 31, the Effingham County Sheriff's Office was notified of a large-scale fight at the American Legion in Edgewood. Officers reached the scene four minutes later and determined the subjects who initiated the fight had fled the scene. The responding officers found three individuals who were injured in the altercation, each receiving non-life threatening knife wounds. The investigation by the Sheriff's Department that followed has indicated the five individuals indicted Wednesday allegedly participated in the incident.

Jacob White was arrested two days after the incident for allegedly stabbing the three individuals. On February 17, a grand jury indicted White on three counts of aggravated battery involving a deadly weapon. He is being held in Effingham County Jail on $50,000 bond on those counts.

Effingham County Sheriff David Mahon and Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler thanked the victims, witnesses and the public for their patience in the lengthy investigation. The sheriff said, "Even though the injuries in this fight were not serious, a crime of this nature will not be tolerated in our community. We will bring the full resources of our Department to bear in investigating an incident of this magnitude." He added, "The successful resolution to this incident was a direct result of the quick response of the responding units and a thorough and comprehensive investigation by our detective section."
