A Clay County man has been sentenced to federal prison on gun related charges.

Acting US Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois James Porter said 40-year-old Jeremy S. Johnson of Flora was sentenced to 87 months (seven years, three months) imprisonment and three years' supervised release following his imprisonment. Johnson had pleaded guilty to one count in a federal indictment.

The count charged that from December 2014 to January 12, 2015, Johnson, who had been previously convicted of a felony, possessed a New England Firearms .17 caliber rifle, a Glock .40 caliber pistol, and a Hi-Point .40 caliber pistol.

The investigation in the case was conducted by the Flora Police Department, the Clay County Sheriff's Department, the Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force, the Richland County Sheriff's Department, and the Illinois State Police.
