A chase and resulting crash livened things up in the Centralia area Saturday night.

Illinois State Police report a car driven by 37-year-old Christine Williams of Centralia, was headed south on US 51 after being pursued by Sandoval police. The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Williams for multiple traffic offenses, but Williams didn't stop.

After Sandoval police discontinued the pursuit, Williams continued southbound on US 51 at what officers termed a "very high rate of speed".

As the Williams vehicle entered Central City, the vehicle ran off the roadway at West Pearcy Street and struck the southwest corner of a residence. The vehicle also destroyed approximately 75 feet of fence and two advertising signs in the yard. The vehicle then continued south across Pearcy Street where it was launched into the air after hitting a ditch head-on. The vehicle then struck a garage with the car almost turning over onto its top. The car came to rest on its wheels.

Williams then attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended at the scene.

Williams was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia for treatment of injuries she received in the incident.

Police cited Williams on these charges: DUI drugs, driving while her license is suspended, improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, operating a vehicle with suspended registration, operating an uninsured vehicle, failure to wear a seat belt, possession of drug paraphernalia, disobeying a traffic control device, speeding 95MPH in a 35MPH zone, reckless driving, and aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer. Other criminal charges are pending.
