Two crashes involving the same vehicle occurred early Tuesday afternoon at Fayette and Henrietta.

Effingham city police say a dark-colored SUV rear-ended a vehicle in the intersection, causing the vehicle that was struck to rear-end the vehicle ahead of it.

Police say the driver of the SUV then proceeded into the parking lot of Walgreens and after going around the northwest corner of the building, struck a parked white car and then overturned on its side.

The driver of the SUV reportedly told police that he had pulled into the Walgreen parking lot so the drivers involved in the first incident could exchange information, but several individuals told police the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed when it rounded the corner of the building and struck the parked white vehicle.

One of the three people traveling in the SUV was injured seriously enough to be taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital for treatment.

No names of those involved have been released, but police on scene report that none of the three in the SUV are local residents.

Traffic was disrupted at the intersection of Fayette and Henrietta for some time after the initial crash, but things were back to normal before 2pm.

Effingham firefighters assisted police at the scene.
