Former Watson resident Timothy Beck is seeking to withdraw his guilty plea to a count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

The 31-year-old Beck was to be sentenced Thursday afternoon after admitting to the count, which alleges sexual contact with an eight-year-old boy last August. The boy told family members about actions that allegedly occurred over a five-month period and the family contacted police.

Beck filed the request to have the guilty plea withdrawn on his own, not through his attorney, Public Defender Scott Schmidt.

Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said the sentencing hearing has been postponed anyway, since Judge Kimberly Koester, who has been hearing the case, had to cover a case in Shelby County Thursday. Kibler said the sentencing hearing has been rescheduled for 1pm on March 31, pending the outcome of the request to withdraw the guilty plea.
