24th Annual Eighth Grade Career Conference

In an effort to introduce and expose local students to a variety of career and occupational choices, approximately 2,000 8th grade students will assemble in the Lake Land College Field House on Thursday, April 7 and Friday, April 8 for the 24th annual Eighth Grade Career Conference.

Together, Lake Land College and Eastern Illinois Education for Employment System will co-sponsor the 24th annual Eighth Grade Career Conference, an event in which more than 45,000 students have participated over the years.

The Eighth Grade Career Conference will provide participants the opportunity to explore a variety of career choices through communication and contact with many local professionals from a variety of employment fields. Students also have the opportunity to experience the talented chalk drawings and inspirational expressions presented by Ben Glenn, the Chalk Guy.

“The conference is an important event for local students, It provides them with information about their career pathway and motivates them to focus on their future” said Sally Shawver, project manager for Eastern Illinois Education for Employment System.

Students from the following schools will participate in the career conference: Altamont Grade School, Altamont Lutheran Interparish, Arcola Junior Senior High School, Arthur Junior Senior High School, Beecher City Middle School, Brownstown Junior Senior High School, Casey-Westfield Junior High School, Charleston Middle School, Cowden-Herrick Middle School, Cumberland Middle School, Dieterich Junior High School, Effingham Junior High School, Sacred Heart, St. Anthony’s, Fresh Start TLC, Humboldt TLC, Kansas Junior Senior High School, Kansas TLC, Lerna Bridges Middle School, Martinsville Junior Senior High School, Marshall Junior High School, Mattoon Middle School, St. John’s Middle School, Neoga Junior Senior High School, Oakland Middle School, Okaw Valley Middle School, Crestwood Middle School, Mayo Middle School, Ramsey Junior High School, St. Elmo Junior Senior High School, St. Michael’s Middle School, Shelbyville Middle School, Shiloh Middle School, Stewardson-Strasburg Middle School, South Central Middle School, Sullivan Middle School and Windsor Junior Senior High School.
