The Effingham County Economic Development Committee Tuesday discussed current projects as well as funds available to future endeavors.

Committee Chairman Dave Campbell said most projects are in good shape, but one is of concern as loan payments have not been made in some time. Campbell said he is talking with the business operator on a regular basis, but things haven't changed.

Committee members agree that it's to no one's advantage to terminate an agreement unless there's no hope seen of getting the loan funds repaid. The agreement with the County for the loan funds includes pledged security to make sure the County gets the loaned funds back.

Another project involves a possible relocation to lessen overhead costs and concerns by neighbors over its operation.

Campbell said there are more than $21,000 in funds available from the original grant to a business interested in starting up or expanding, and asked prospects to contact him or the County Board office.

In the meantime, committee member Todd Hull, who serves as the City of Effingham Economic Development Director, reported on Effingham's job retention efforts and noted that similar efforts are underway in Teutopolis and Dieterich.

Also at the meeting, it was reported that the Chipotle Mexican Grill to be located along Keller Drive should start taking shape this month, and that Heartville is to be getting a Dollar General store.
