Neoga school board members discussed a vision development project at this month's meeting.

Neoga Junior-Senior High School Principal Ben Johnson said the project is an effort to focus on where school officials hope the district is headed in future years. Examples of the items to be addressed include learning, best practices in education, and enhancement of communication with the public.

The Board heard from Christina Krost on her idea to develop a community garden. Krost asked whether a portion of the ground at the Early Learning facility at the former elementary building could be used for the garden. The Board indicated they would be responding later to Krost on the proposal.

Board members discussed information available on the jobs eliminated during the winter of 2015 and the savings generated as of the winter of 2016. The cuts have generated savings of about $670,000. More information on the study is available on the Neoga district website.

The Board discussed an online auction to generate more bids on the sale of a bus, and also discussed a Reduction in Force in the spring. Johnson indicated only those positions that are grant funded would be involved with the option to recall those individuals if the grant funding continues.

Neoga board members also approved the future retirement of educator Melinda White; and approved three assistant coaches, Allison Mueller for high school track, Ryne Floyd for frosh/soph spring baseball, and Ruthie Moderau for high school assistant softball coach. Booster Club contributions and proceeds from the Activity Fund will cover the cost of those coaches' stipends.

The Board also transferred Julie Altman to a secretary's postion at the elementary level, but tabled a library aide assignment.
