The Effingham Water Authority Board has granted approval for alcohol sales and video gaming at a Lake Sara establishment.

The Board voted this week to amend the lease covering Larson's Landing to allow the two items and the operation of a restaurant at the location. The issue of camping at the location was tabled for further review by the board.

Trustees heard from Charlie Smith, owner of Lots 34 and 35 in Boos and Grunloh #2, about the debris accumulating in his cove. Smith said the adjoining dock was constructed in a way that makes it almost impossible to get any equipment in to clean out debris, or do seawall repairs.

Trustee Chairman Rob Brown told Smith that the problem exists in many of the small coves. It was recommended that Smith contact G&H Marine in Decatur, a business that has smaller equipment that might be able to get into the smaller cove more easily.

In other business, Water Authority Attorney Tony Siemer reported that a new hog production operation near the Illinois 32/33 junction does not appear to be within the Lake Sara Watershed.

The Water Authority board also held a special meeting on Thursday. Trustee Chris Kabbes gave an update on the Authority's new website. The Board also met in closed session to discuss personnel, but there was no action on any items upon a return to open session.
