Matt Greider has been elected Co-President of the Effingham Public Library Board.

Greider was elected to succeed Suellen Reimers, who resigned from the Board due to work commitments. Greider will share president's duties with Dannielle Harden, who had already been co-chair with Reimers.

Library board members discussed the possibility of offering the Summer Lunch for Kids program at the library this year. The program has been offered at West Side School since its inception, but participation levels have dipped in the past couple of years. Board members showed some interest in hosting the program, but also had some questions, among them whether to commit the space in one of the library meeting rooms on a daily basis through the seven-week program. The matter is to be revisited at the March meeting.

The Board approved a fiscal year budget that includes a mortgage payment of just shy of $100,000. Library Director Amanda McKay said $200,000 in income through pledges is anticipated to cover the additional expense. Also approved was a 2016 action plan to implement a portion of the board's strategic plan. The item to be addressed is to provide wireless printing to patrons. It was also decided to create a personnel policy review committee. McKay said the policy hasn't been reviewed in her tenure. It was decided to involve the board in the review phase. Greider and Harden will participate along with board member Jim Arndt, who serves as City Administrator.
