Deputy's Squad Car Struck by Vehicle in Effingham

An Effingham County Sheriff's Department squad car was struck by another vehicle Tuesday morning, injuring the deputy.

The crash occurred at 8:55am at the intersection of Temple Avenue and Maple Street in Effingham. A vehicle driven by 20-year-old Ashley Gutierrez of Effingham rear-ended the squad car, driven by 52-year-old David Kinkelaar of Effingham while Kinkelaar was stopped at the intersection.

Kinkelaar was injured, complaining of head and neck pain, but declined to be taken for treatment.

Gutierrez was cited for not being insured.
