The Teutopolis school board Monday set a tentative graduation date for the Class of 2016.

The date is tentatively set for Sunday afternoon May 15, at 2:30pm in J.H. Griffin Gym. 8th grade promotion is tentatively set for the last day of school at 7:30pm.

The Board approved next year's school calendar. The starting date for teachers will be Wednesday, August 17, students will start on August 18 with a half-day, and the first full day for students will be Friday, August 19.

Board members approved a senior class trip for April 20 to Chicago.

In personnel moves, the Board approved resignations from Daryl Miller as high school Ag/Industrial Systems teacher and from Patricia Schlanser as fifth grade teacher, both as of the end of the current school year; and approved a resignation from Ron Cowman as high school assistant softball coach. The Board also rehired all district administrators for next school year with superintendent goals and salaries to be set at a future meeting, hired Pat Drees and Kimberly Wallace to work as co-assistant softball coaches for one year only, approved the donation of sick leave bank days for one year only for teacher Kari McManaway, and agreed to advertise for an Ag/Industrial Arts teacher for the coming school year.

The Board agreed to continue with alternative education programs through the Regional Office of Education, including FOCUS, TriStar Academy Safe Schools, New Approach, and the Aspire Alternative High School. Board members heard from THS Principal Greg Beck on a proposed new English class at the high school for non-college bound seniors, and reviewed a policy concerning student discipline.

Teutopolis board members also approved the purchase of iPads for Kindergarten and first grade students for the coming school year at Teutopolis Grade School. This meets a goal to provide devices for those students as part of the "Techtopolis" capital fundraising drive.
