City Police Investigate Injury Crash, Retail Theft

Effingham city police had a busy weekend; among activities handling a crash with an injury and a retail theft incident.

The crash occurred at 5:33pm Saturday on US Route 40 at Crystal Club Road. Police report 24-year-old Jeffrey Esker of Teutopolis attempted a right hand turn, lost control of his motorcycle in loose gravel, and overturned.

Esker was injured and was taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment. Esker was cited for DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

The retail theft occurred at Hibbett Sports at 1605 Ford Avenue, at 5:21pm Friday. Multiple matching sets of tops and pants were stolen, having a value of $119.98 per set.
