Herrick resident Wayne Newlin has been found guilty of murder.

A jury deliberated less than two hours Thursday before finding Newlin guilty of his role in the shooting death of Jeremy Morgan last December 29 in a rural area between Herrick and Tower Hill.

Prosecutors convinced the 11-man, one-woman jury that Newlin convinced 24-year-old Michael Pease of Pana to kill Morgan because Morgan wouldn't move out of the home he was sharing with Newlin and a woman.

Pease pleaded guilty to shooting Morgan in July.  He was sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Newlin could face 35 years or more in prison for the murder.  He is due to be sentenced November 9.

The trial was held in Effingham due to renovations underway at the Shelby County Courthouse in Shelbyville.
