After almost 20 years, there is a change in leadership of the Effingham County Salvation Army Service Unit.

In addition to retiring as pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Effingham, Rev. Drew Holloway also submitted his resignation Thursday as the head of the county Salvation Army unit. He will be succeeded as chairman by Rev. David McConnell, pastor of First Christian Church of Effingham.

The change is effective February 1.

Salvation Army is a nationwide organization that has been in existence for more than 150 years. The organization is probable best known for its annual Bellringer Campaign, held at Christmastime. Funds raised by the campaign are used to assist people in emergency situations.

Holloway was recruited for the Board by the late Rev. Lawrence G. Beebe, and succeeded Beebe as chairman.

The Board heard that the 2015 Bellringer Campaign raised $20,880.46 in contributions.
