A Missouri man has received probation and jail time for his role in the death of a Gary, Indiana man in Effingham County.

51-year-old Timothy Meadors was placed on four years' probation and sentenced to 90 days in Effingham County Jail. Meadors was sentenced on a count of aggravated DUI causing injury or death.

Meadors was driving on the interstate in Effingham County in 2009 when his vehicle struck Milton Muhammad, who was working on his disabled vehicle stopped along the shoulder of the roadway. Meadors was found to have methamphetamine in his system at the time of the incident. He was charged with the offense in 2010.

Meadors will have to also pay fines and court costs, and must complete public service work.

The case was handled by an attorney from the Illinois Appellate Prosecutor's Service.
