We told you at the time of the dedication of the monument on the lawn of the Effingham Courthouse Museum in memory of fallen area state troopers that an effort was underway to name a portion of the interstate through Effingham in memory of two of those troopers.

That effort has been successful.

Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club member Kathy Schroeder said fellow Rotarian Kelly Stanfield was notified Wednesday that the recognition has been approved by the Illinois General Assembly. Schroeder, who chaired the effort to get the monument approved and funded, reminded that Stanfield had stayed in touch with St. Sen. Dale Righter and St. Rep. David Reis for support of the initiative. Schroeder said Righter notified Stanfield that the resolution has been passed.

Schroeder said the portion of I-57 from the Shelby-Effingham County line to the north tri-level is being named in memory of State Trooper Layton Davis, while the stretch of I-57 from the south tri-level to the Watson-Mason interchange is being named in memory of Trooper Frank Doris.

Appropriate signage will be produced and a dedication ceremony honoring all of the fallen troopers will be scheduled.
