Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports a car driven by 28-year-old Derek Douthit of Bingham was northbound on 200th Street when the car ran off the right side of the roadway and into a ditch. The car then came back across both lanes and struck an embankment on the west side of the roadway. The vehicle headed into a cornfield and flipped multiple times. The unit landed upright about 80 yards from where it struck the embankment.

Douthit was injured, as was his passenger, 25-year-old Caleb Dean of Pana. Dean refused treatment, but Douthit was taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana for treatment.

Deputies cited Douthit for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash and improper lane usage.
