The findings of a psychological evaluation of the juvenile charged in the shooting death of 16-year-old Kaylee Jacob of Effingham should be available within a week.

It had been hoped the findings would be in hand for a hearing that was held Wednesday afternoon. The juvenile is charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a stolen weapon, and burglary. Prosecutors argue that the juvenile took the gun from a vehicle and had it in his possession when it discharged, fatally wounding Kaylee Jacob.

Since the evaluation results weren't available, the matter was continued until later this month. Judge Kimberly Koester said the court docket is full for the next several weeks, but set a status hearing for 2pm on Wednesday, January 27.

During Wednesday's hearing, Effingham County Public Defender Scott Schmidt said he has filed a motion to vacate a detention order that is keeping the juvenile in custody. Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said he still plans to seek a transfer of the case to adult court.
