Teutopolis Man Killed in Accident in Shelby County

A Teutopolis man was fatally injured when run over by a vehicle in an incident in Shelby County.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Department reported the man, 70-year-old Joseph Helmink of rural Teutopolis, was found dead and appeared to have been run over by a livestock trailer being backed into a stall by a relative. The incident happened about 9:15am Tuesday at a sale barn along Illinois Route 16 just east of Shelbyville.

An autopsy was conducted later Tuesday to determine the official cause of death. The findings will be released later.
