Two people were injured in a Christmas Day crash in Fayette County.

State police report a car driven by 21-year-old Wyatt Summann of Shobonier was traveling on US 51 in the Woodyard area when the crash occurred at 12:17pm. Police report Summann told authorities he was attempting to get his phone and took his eyes off the roadway. The car ran off the highway into the left side ditch where the car struck a culvert and overturned straight up, landing on its top.

Summann, who was not wearing his seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. Summann's passenger, 23-year-old Cheyenne Haxton of Vandalia, had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Both Summann and Haxton were injured and both were airlifted from the scene; Summann to a Springfield hospital, Haxton to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Summann was cited for no valid insurance, improper lane usage, improper cell phone usage, and not wearing a seat belt.
