A semi crash near Vandalia blocked travel on I-70 overnight.

State police report a rig driven by 48-year-old Lamptey Welbeck of Indianapolis ran off the eastbound lanes about five miles west of Vandalia at 11:38pm. The semi traveled off into the median and then, in a skid, came back onto the eastbound lanes and overturned before skidding into the guardrail.

Welbeck was injured and was airlifted from the scene to HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield. He was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.

The eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed for two hours.
