The Altamont school district has received E-rate funding approval.

The agreement will allow the district to install new fiber optic between Altamont Community High School and Altamont Grade School, as well as be reimbursed for all new backbone wiring at the grade school installed this past summer. The E-rate funding totals just over $81,000, with the District contributing just over $2,000 of that amount.

The Board at Monday night's meeting passed a fiscal year tax levy 11.12% greater than what was extended in taxes last year. Board members also approved a 2017 high school band trip to Florida at Disney attractions and Kennedy Space Center, and approved additional curriculum course proposals in Agriculture and Industrial Technology.

The Altamont board expelled a high school student for gross misconduct for the remainder of the current school year.

In personnel moves, Altamont board members employed Eric Heiden as junior high boys basketball coach, approved Marlee Nolan as high school student volunteer for junior high volleyball, approved a maternity leave request for Kelsey Burrow, and employed Gabriella Wendling as high school Spanish and grade school Enrichment teacher for the balance of the school year.

The Board also heard about Niche rankings for the school district. Altamont Unit 10 was ranked 68th among all districts in Illinois, up from 83rd last year. It was noted Dieterich Unit 30 ranked 63rd in the state, with their high school ranking third in the area and their grade school ranking first in the area.
